So Cain gets a little frustrated. That’s understatement. He was enraged. There’s got to be something going on here. Perhaps Cain was already angry at Abel. There were some interpersonal struggles that he had with his twin. Perhaps Cain was just a bitter person in general. I guess if I were in Cain’s shoes I might not be much better. Talk about being mad at mom and dad for really messing up his life. Hearing stories of the garden of Eden had to make you a little outraged at mom and dad’s actions. Perhaps Cain was already angry at God for putting them in this mess. Couldn’t God just overlook that one little sin instead of plunging them into a life of despair? Well maybe these were the thoughts going through Cain’s head. But the only reason these thoughts make sense to us is because we have thought them. We become the innocent, unstained, perfect, unspotted victim don’t we? We become angry with others, with God, instead of focusing on our own wretched sinfulness. And just like us, Cain was angry.
