Abram was torn from his extended family in Ur, torn from his home and his livelihood, torn from his comfort. He watched as the last vestiges of his ancestry died as his father Terah breathed his last in Haran. And now Abram finds himself without home, dwelling in the oaks of Mamre, without child, without land, and a day to day uncertainty of an attack from ruthless kings, bent on money and power. The promises of God are looking hazy. Trust in God is getting harder and harder every day. And folks, at this moment in Abram’s life, God steps in like a wave of great calm and says, “Abram, fear not. I am your shield.”
