What Was Abram Thinking? A Famine, A Lie, And A Deportation

David Janke Jr.

Well verses 11 through 13 are kind of an eerie start to the story. That is quite a thing to fear. Clearly, Abram and Sarai are "not in Kansas anymore, Toto." Clearly they are walking into a country in which they expect to be mistreated. It’s interesting that they go there, even though they already know this about the place. I think this suggests that the circumstances in Canaan must have been pretty dire. Because from where I’m sitting, Egypt is a place I want to avoid entirely. I’ll just take a boat around the Mediterranean into Libya thank you very much. But in they go, looking for survival.
